Carsten brings over 30 years of extensive experience in the banking sector to SMBC, having previously served at Credit Suisse for more than 25 years. In his recent role as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for Greater China, he also chaired the board of Credit Suisse (HK) Ltd and Credit Suisse Securities (HK) Ltd. Responsible for leading Credit Suisse's operations in Greater China, including Investment Banking, Wealth Management, and Asset Management, Carsten demonstrated remarkable leadership. Before this, he held the position of Head of Asia Strategic Products, overseeing integrated financing platforms for the Asia Pacific region, covering financing, lending, securitization, and syndication activities. With past experiences in London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong, Carsten previously served as the Global Head of Capital Markets and Financial Market Sales at Standard Chartered.
