Barry O’Byrne assumed the role of CEO of Global Commercial Banking in February 2020, overseeing a diverse customer base of approximately 1.3 million across 50 markets, spanning from local enterprises to multinational corporations. Joining HSBC in April 2017 as Group General Manager and COO for Global Commercial Banking, he led strategic change initiatives and held various leadership roles. Prior to HSBC, O’Byrne spent 19 years at GE Capital, where he served in senior leadership capacities, including CEO for GE Capital International. With CEO experience across multiple countries and a background in Business Studies and French from the University of Limerick, O’Byrne brings extensive expertise to his role.
